What you can do is do a ceremony in its name and thank your cat for being that beautiful light and that it took care of you all that time. For passed loved one's thanking them and letting them actively know that they are very much appreciated is key.
Your cat still loves you.
When its time to let go, you will feel it, as your cat has other lives to live, and in that sense, more forward. It might even come back into your life if that is the universal plan.
You can meditate, go into your hear, and listen to your cats messages and your spirit.
