SkyPurify My ancestors came from Ireland, France (who had moved to Scotland), and England, but we never were able to find my maternal grandmother's lineage. Photos of her and her younger brother at young ages showed them to have Asian-like eyes, fully different than their older sisters who looked wholly European. There were a lot of unrecorded adoptions back then, so it is possible that my grandmother had been adopted. Too, specific family traits have shown to skip a generation before being seen again in grandchildren, so my grandmother's grandmother might have also had the Asian-like eyes.
Although I obviously have strong Irish features, my wife said that to her my eyes make me look Chinese.
Adding to the puzzle is that I found a photo of my grandmother of when she was about 17, and from the top of her cheeks to the bottom of her jaw, her facial shape was indistinguishable from my wife at the same age. My wife's ancestry is predominately German, but included Cherokee and Ottawa in recent generations. (It seems as though most everyone in the south now has some Native American blood.)
It's funny to me that I strongly prefer to wear Irish turtleneck sweaters while having an interest in French baroque and ancient Chinese texts. I am so messed-up!! 😃
For myself, the conflicting influences of my own ancestry have sometimes been uncomfortable, but they have also enabled a continuous striving to choose a lifestyle that is most honorable, of which, to me, has made the discomforts worthwhile.
